How has the weekend been for you? I hope you have managed to spend some time talking to friends and family, even if you are in self isolation. I spent some time talking to friends- many whom are really encouraged by the love, neighbourliness and selflessness being shown by so many people in their communities. Here in these villages, I have been so impressed and moved by the kindness of many people- and by the astonishing hard work being put into looking after everyone. Schools, shops, community groups and individuals, all going above and beyond.
This leads me to believe that we need not be anxious- because the love of God is all around us, made visible through the love of our brothers and sisters. All these people are being good news to their neighbours. Yes, there is a degree of selfishness and foolishness in the behaviour of some people- but on the whole these people are in a minority- and the calmer and kinder the rest of us are, the easier it will be for them to let go of their anxieties and trust that they will be looked after, whatever happens.
So- continue with all the good things you are already doing- and trust God’s goodness- and be unafraid.
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4.4-7)
